Amateur Wine Makers’ Contest- Friday, August 5th

The Niagara County Fair will once again feature an amateur wine makers’ contest this year.

In the early 1980s, the Niagara County Fair Amateur Wine Makers’ Contest was started by the DeMaison family of Sanborn, New York, grape growers and winemaking suppliers. Over time, the contest was discontinued and restarted by local wine maker Tom Chiappone in the 1990s.

This year the event, know as the Western New York Amateur Wine Makers’ Contest, will be chaired by Kurt Guba. Mr. Guba would like to see the contest emphasize encouragement of local wine makers regardless of skill. The contest is open to Niagara and surrounding counties.

Free Wine Tasting and Public Judging Friday, August 6 at Freedom Run Winery at 5pm. Awards Ceremoney Saturday August 7 at the Niagara County Fair at 1pm.
